In a defining moment for sustainable development, Nasarawa State has taken a giant leap towards agricultural transformation and environmental resilience with the successful conclusion of the ACReSAL Hybrid Implementation Support Mission. Hosted at the Government House in Lafia, this milestone event, led by the dynamic leadership of His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule brought together state officials, traditional rulers, development partners and over 800 farmers to celebrate a shared vision for climate-smart agriculture and community empowerment.
A key highlight of the event was the commissioning of 25 brand new, fully equipped tractors set to revolutionize farming practices across the state. These machines are complemented by the large scale distribution of organic fertilizers, improved seeds and modern irrigation equipment to over 8,600 farmers, marking a decisive boost to food production and household income.
In a further show of inclusive growth, Community Interest Groups (CIGs) received a $25000 soft loan each from the Community Revolving Fund in 2024. These funds are already fueling small scale enterprises and improving rural livelihoods in Toto and Doma, creating a ripple effect of prosperity and sustainable reinvestment.
ACReSAL in Nasarawa is not just about machines and materials, it is about restoring the land and safeguarding the future. As part of its environmental restoration strategy, the mission oversaw tree planting activities in the Oyina Forest Reserve and the installation of 40 solar powered boreholes a testament to the state’s commitment to reforestation and water security.
In a demonstration of compassion and equity, His Excellency has approved ₦744 million allocated as compensation and support for Project Affected Persons (PAPs) in Doma/Lafia and Toto Local Government respectively, ensuring that no one is left behind in the transformation journey.
Representatives from the World Bank and the Federal Project Implementation Unit praised Nasarawa as a model state, applauding its transparency, inclusive governance, and strong alignment of the ACReSAL project with broader national goals including food security, youth engagement, and climate resilience.
The presence and endorsement of traditional rulers was particularly significant. Recognized as custodians of community values, they pledged full support to ensure that ACReSAL takes root and thrives at the grassroots level.
Governor Abdullahi A. Sule brought the mission to a close with a powerful message of hope, resilience and leadership, declaring Nasarawa’s unwavering readiness to lead Nigeria’s climate-smart agriculture drive under the Renewed Hope Agenda. As the newly commissioned tractors rolled out and PAPs received financial support in Lafia, the event marked not just an end but the beginning of a brighter, greener, and more prosperous future for the State through ACReSAL.
