The FPMU FAO Landscape Restoration Technical Support Mission team arrived the Nasarawa State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project Management Unit (SPMU) for a strategic technical support and monitoring mission aimed at strengthening project implementation, assessing progress and enhancing collaboration for sustainable agricultural and environmental development.
The visiting delegation were warmly received by the Nasarawa State ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Dr. Elias Gyobe Napoleon, alongside members of the State Project Management Unit (SPMU). The mission commenced with a comprehensive debriefing session, where the state technical team showcased key achievements recorded under the FAO-supported interventions.
During the session, the Project’s Focal NGO delivered a detailed presentation highlighting the progress made across various intervention areas, implementation milestones, community impacts and ongoing activities designed to strengthen climate resilience and improve livelihoods across the state.
Speaking during the engagement, the FPMU FAO Technical Support Mission Team Leader, Mr. Cyril Bikom, explained that the objective of the mission is to verify and assess the achievements recorded under the project, inspect intervention sites, evaluate implementation approaches and review planned activities to ensure alignment with the project’s development objectives.
He emphasized the importance of sustained community engagement throughout project implementation, noting that continuous stakeholder participation is critical to strengthening community ownership, promoting sustainability and ensuring the long-term success of project interventions.
According to the mission leader, the field visits will provide the team with the opportunity to evaluate tree planting techniques adopted across intervention sites, interact directly with beneficiary communities and receive first-hand feedback from community members on the impact of the project. The mission will also assess the level of community participation and the effectiveness of implementation strategies at the grassroots level.
Following the debriefing session, the FPMU FAO Landscapes Restoration delegation, alongside the Nasarawa ACReSAL technical team, held a strategic engagement with representatives of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and other development partners who visited the Project Management Unit to explore areas of collaboration and partnership.
The engagement focused on advancing climate-smart agriculture through the adoption of modern agricultural technologies, including the use of improved seed varieties, enhanced crop production techniques for increased productivity, demonstration of improved seed technologies and nutrient management training programmes for farmers across Nasarawa State.
The discussions also explored opportunities for technical collaboration, knowledge exchange and capacity building aimed at improving agricultural productivity, strengthening food security and supporting sustainable livelihood development in line with the objectives of the ACReSAL Project.
The interactive session provided a valuable platform for experience sharing, strategic dialogue and the exchange of innovative ideas among stakeholders committed to promoting resilient agricultural systems.
At the conclusion of the engagement, the FPMU FAO Landscape Restoration Technical Support Mission team expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness demonstrated by the Nasarawa State ACReSAL Project and commended the quality of discussions and collaboration with technical partners. The delegation noted that the engagement had broadened their understanding of the innovative agricultural initiatives being implemented in the state and reaffirmed the importance of sustained partnerships in delivering impactful and sustainable development outcomes.
